Arbitration is an alternative dispute resolution method in which the parties prefer to resolve their disputes before a private arbitrator or arbitral tribunal rather than before the state judiciary. Especially in commercial disputes, arbitration is seen to be effective due to the competence and impartiality of the decision-makers in technical matters requiring expertise.

Arbitration types are divided into two as ad hoc arbitration and institutional arbitration. In ad hoc arbitration, the process is determined by the parties, while in institutional arbitration, the rules of a specific arbitration centre or institution are applied.
